What Benjamin Franklin Has To Say About Your Brand

Keys To Community: Ben Franklin in morning light“Drive thy business or it will drive thee.”
- Benjamin Franklin

It’s easy to get caught up in our daily business routines, focusing on the meetings we have, which employees are running late, or how we can afford to purchase new computers in this economy. Unfortunately, when we are focused on these and other business-related activities, we often take our minds away from what truly matters in our business: the quality of the products and services we deliver.

When the quality of service to your customer drops, the value of your brand begins to decline, and customers will start seeking alternatives. You may not notice immediately, but over time you will begin to see fewer and fewer familiar faces (fewer and fewer repeat customers), and I guarantee they are talking with their peers about why they have chosen your competitors over you.

Driving your business, as Benjamin Franklin suggests, is about focusing on what really matters in your business (providing great service), and not letting the daily minutiae control you. This is also called branding.

Branding is simply good business. Companies build strong brands by focusing on knowledgeable employees, remarkable customer service, and products that can be personally guaranteed. Business owners that want their business to simply survive focus on getting through their day; business owners that want their business to thrive and grow focus on their brand.

If you’re in the Iowa City area, consider attending the aptly named Drive Your Brand Workshop on May 19. This one-day workshop you will show you how to keep your focus on your brand, so you can drive your business to greater success!
